Scholar and writer A. S. P. Woodhouse was educated at the University of Toronto and Harvard University. He taught at the University of Manitoba for five years before joining the U of T. Faculty of English in 1928. He became head of the English department of University College, U of T, and head of the graduate department of English. Under his guidance the university’s English department was recognized across North America. An educational traditionalist, Woodhouse was not fond of McLuhan’s ideas and teaching style.
